Namak Mandi

Brief History

Peshawar's ancient city is a treasure trove of historical interest.

Exploration of the city will lead you to a lively district of  Namak Mandi (The Salt Market).

According to an ancient Peshawar resident, this location was formerly a hub for the region's salt trade. The salt traders used to have their stacks of salt kept in the go-downs of Namak Mandi in the pre-partition era when the city appeared empty and the sound of a horse's hoofs dragging a tonga could be heard at the last stretch of the road due to the lingering calm.

People would come here and swap this salt for a range of ordinary goods, mostly from neighbouring countries. This business has dwindled over time.

Unlike the Namakmandi of old, our Namakmandi is more lively with the same calming feel. Namak Mandi is about hospitalities and specialities. We sincerely create the context for a memorable gastronomical experience which is reflected in our masterfully executed signature dishes our quaint yet indulgent interior design and our conscientious staff. Our food is unique. Our ambience is unique. Our staff is familiar, like an old friend.

We established ourselves with an overarching vision in mind; to provide the finest authentic Peshawari food and traditional Peshawari restaurant experience to the whole of Scotland.

This is why we won the unique restaurant of the year the first year we opened.

Not only do we offer a high-end experience of food but we also have a firm belief in exceptional customer service to ensure every soul that enters through our doors, leaves feeling whole.

Whole, like your meal, when it is completed with a complimentary green tea – a testament to our devotion to hospitality and an essential part of our culture back home. And now, we are bringing this time-honoured tradition to our home in Scotland.

We strive every single day to make your Namak Mandi visit the best experience.

We go the extra mile for our customers because… it is our purpose.

Our caring staff is the most important ingredient that makes this magic happen.

Art of Giving

At Namak Mandi we believe in selfless giving. We do charity work but with a different approach.

We take part in regular charity work which mainly involves personally feeding the homeless people around Glasgow and handing out food on the streets.

We weren’t very vocal about our charitable work in the past simply because we did not do it from a sentiment of being noticed. We did it to help an individual in need genuinely.

However, recently we have realized that we are in a position to influence people and we want to take this opportunity to urge everyone to challenge themselves to do something for someone without expecting anything in return.

This is an open invitation to everyone (even the person reading this right now) to give without expectation.

Whatever you may have to offer whether it’s food or money or even some words of wisdom. The idea is to give whatever you may have to someone in need without expecting anything in return and we want the whole world to be involved.

We live in a ruthless world.  A little act of kindness can make it a little less terrible.

A good deed goes a long way.

Kindness & Generosity

Whether it is through ongoing charitable giving or small acts of kindness to our customers and staff. We truly believe in the power of kindness and generosity and the positive effects they can have on the people around them.

Forward Thinking

Open mind, open heart. We strive by having an open mind and always accepting new ideas with open arms. We strongly believe that there is a solution to every problem and that one can always learn and grow.

Honesty

Not knowing isn’t too great. Lying about it is a lot worse. We encourage full honesty and transparency between our staff members and customers. We don’t like to cut corners, and if we ever do, then we want you to be aware of that!

Quality

We are an ambitious bunch of foodies wanting to provide the highest possible value and experience for our customers.  Going the extra mile is within our DNA, and we never want to serve something we are not ey

From free events for our local community to having personal and close relationships with our loyal customers. At the heart of our food, our events, our green tea, and our passion are the people that we so cherish. Bringing passion, history, a diverse conversation, and a smile to our community brings us joy and fulfillment.

Creativity

Food is a craft. It's an art. The food we make is in many ways even more artistic than many contemporary cuisines due to its rich history. By fully respecting the historical significance and authenticity of the food, our chefs are still always on the hunt for the next great dish. We enjoy good aesthetics and strive to think outside the box.

Food for us is part of a bigger picture. a different picture. a different world. a better world. for all.
