Namak Mandi, Glasgow
Our story
From the old salt market of Peshawar to Norfolk Street, Glasgow.
A brief history
The salt market
Namak Mandi means "salt market", a lively district in the ancient city of Peshawar.

Peshawar's ancient city is a treasure trove of historical interest. Explore it and you will reach the lively district of Namak Mandi.
According to an old Peshawar resident, the area was once a hub for the region's salt trade. Before partition, salt traders kept their stacks of salt in the go-downs of Namak Mandi. The city was so calm that you could hear a horse's hooves pulling a tonga down the last stretch of the road.
People came here to swap salt for everyday goods, mostly from neighbouring countries. Over time, that trade faded away.
Our Namak Mandi is livelier than the old one, with the same calming feel. It is about hospitality and our specialities: signature dishes made with care, a quaint yet indulgent interior, and conscientious staff.
Our food is unique. Our ambience is unique. Our staff are familiar, like an old friend.

Giving back
Art of giving
At Namak Mandi we believe in selfless giving. We do charity work, but with a different approach: we regularly feed homeless people around Glasgow ourselves, handing out food on the streets.
We weren't very vocal about this in the past, because we didn't do it to be noticed. We did it to genuinely help people in need.
Recently we have realised that we are in a position to influence people, and we want to use it to urge everyone to do something for someone without expecting anything in return.
This is an open invitation to everyone, even you, reading this right now. Whatever you have to offer, whether it is food, money or a few words of wisdom, give it to someone in need. We want the whole world to be involved.
We live in a ruthless world. A little act of kindness can make it a little less so. A good deed goes a long way.
